Complete Exchange Requirements

Course Registration

Students will register for classes with the assistance of a designated academic advisor at Loyola after completing the Inbound Exchange Student Course Selection Form. This form will be emailed to students, along with instructions on how to fill out and submit it. When choosing courses, we recommend listing a few backup options in case the preferred classes are not available for that term or are already full.

Students can view available courses through our integrated, web-based student information system, LOCUS:

Visa & Immigration Information

Inbound Exchange Students will need to obtain a DS-2019 document and interview for their J-1 visa before they can enter the United States and begin their exchange program.

After their arrival in Chicago, students are expected to
maintain a full-time course of study and comply with State Department health insurance regulations.

Health Insurance

J-1 exchange students are required to provide evidence of health insurance coverage that meets State Department requirements. Students are automatically enrolled in Loyola’s student health insurance plan. A student may choose to waive out of this coverage and purchase a separate plan, provided that it meets State Department requirements.

Loyola Email Access

Students should set up their Loyola email and check it consistently, as this will be the main means of communication from campus offices. Loyola’s email service is Microsoft Outlook, and a student's email address is their assigned UVID followed by @luc.edu.
